Rainbow On Bay & May Applying For Cannabis Licence

Local head shop Rainbow on Bay and Rainbow on May will be applying for a cannabis store licence.

A store official is pleased the province has announced Thunder Bay will be one of the city’s getting an Ontario Cannabis storefront.

Mackenzie Davis is the manager of Rainbow on Bay and tells us there’s no reason why our city couldn’t be home to five or six storefronts.

The Rainbow on Bay and May official goes on to say ” if the provincial government wants to succeed in stamping out the illegal market, we will need to see lower prices and better access; a local storefront is a step in the right direction.”

The new retail stores will be required to take part in a lottery process and will be allowed to open on a rolling basis, beginning in October.

The local retail official notes it would take more time to issue licenses based on a review of every applicant, but feels it would be a better way to go rather than the current lottery process.

Davis adds, “the problems we are currently facing with the Cannabis sector will eventually be sorted out.”

“I think it’s essential to have a local and legal supply of Cannabis, especially for tourists who are very confused about the current Cannabis laws in Canada.”

The Rainbow on Bay Manager notes if they did win the lottery licence for the cannabis storefront, they would need to open a separate store since certain accessories can’t be sold in the same store as cannabis.
