Bill Killed In Senate-Fiddler Upset

The grand chief of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation is disappointed a law affecting Indigenous people in Canada will not get passed.

Alvin Fiddler believes it’s a shame the Senate was not able to pass a bill which sought to put Canadian laws in line with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The private members bill was introducted by Quebec NDP-MP Romeo Saganash.

The NAN grand chief believes the law was another step in the reconciliation process and it’s failture to pass is something they will remember now that the election is just months away.

Fiddler notes it was the Conservative senators who stopped the bill from passing.
