People living with brain injuries are sharing their stories at our local art gallery.
BISNO spokesperson Lauri Moffatt-Zawacki explains their exhibit Unmasking Brain Injury.
“They tell their story through the artwork they create on the mask and through their write-up explaining their injury.”
During the month of June, more than 25 local Brain Injury Associations and community partners from Ontario will be unveiling the Unmasking Brain Injury Project in honour of Brain Injury Awareness Month.
Unmasking Brain Injury is an international movement and, through the coordination of the Ontario Brain Injury Association (OBIA), Ontario has become the first province in Canada to participate.
Art Gallery spokesperson Betty Carpick feels the masks are really moving and gives people an opportunity to see these touching stories.
She calls this artwork therapeutic and empowering.
