City To Get New Security Cameras

The city is going to replace its aging security camera system this year.

A report to City Council says city staff will work with Tbaytel to get new cameras and other equipment for the Eye on the Street program.

It says while the system has been upgraded over the years, its video quality is nearly the same as when the cameras were installed in 2005.

There’s no word on how much the replacements will cost.

Last year, the Eye on the Street program captured 253 incidents of what the report calls “suspicious activity”. It saw 389 in 2017 and 399 in 2016.

Its budget was approved at a total of $113,000 for 2018.
