The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority is issuing a flood warning for the region including Oliver Paipoonge, Neebing, O’Connor and Gillies.
They say 17-32 millimetres of rain was recorded overnight, with the higher amounts recorded on the Whitefish River and O’Connor area.
They are warning area residents flooding could become worse with more rain expected throughout the day.
Environment Canada’s Geoff Coulson tells us the rain won’t let up for several hours and it has the potential to get intense.
“For mid to late afternoon scattered showers and thunderstorms could continue and well into the evening hours as the system is unstable.”
The Environment Canada meteorologist predicts the shower activity should become more scattered after midnight until it ends.
Meanwhile, the Lakhead Public School Board has dismissed students early from Whitefish Valley Public School.
Officials say rising water levels on the Whitefish River have caused road closures and washouts leading to the early dismissal.
The school board says buses have been sent to pick students up, but if parents and guardians can they are asked to pick up kids as soon as possible.
Nolalu Fire Rescue and First Response posted on social media saying there is a washout at Hwy 588 between Whitefish River and Silvaggio Road. They say one lane of traffic is open but it could change.
There’s also reports of water running on Logan Road. A beaver dam has broken at Old Silver Mountain Road west of Leeper Road which is closed.

Leeper between 588 and Old Silver Mountain
Palisades – multiple spots

Old Mill – between Palisades and Old Silver Mountain Rd
