National Park Opens With Upgrades

After close to four decades with very few changes, Pukaskwa National Park, 250 kilometres east of Thunder Bay, has seen a major face-lift.

Spokesperson Amy Mackie explains the $10 million worth of improvements include something which will make hikers happy.

The trail structure has been upgraded to include new platforms overlooking Lake Superior.

There is also a new roof on the visitors centre, the campground washroom interiors have been fixed up, the windows and the siding of the administration building have all been replaced to make it more energy efficient, and the campground roads have been widened.

The last major infrastructure upgrade to Pukaskwa Park happened in the early 1980’s when the it was first established.
