The province wants to eliminate a case backlog before the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal, formerly known as Ontario Municipal Board.
It’s the main adjudicator for land use planning in Ontario
Housing Minister Steve Clark says the backlog is holding up the development of nearly 100,000 homes.
He says the government will be appointing an additional 11 adjudicators to deal with the backlog.
Clark says he’s also going to broaden the Tribunal’s mandate and allow for more mediation in resolving disputes and simplify the process to stop potential future delays.
The changes, says the housing minister, will help the tribunal move through its caseload.
