Answers Sought In Playground Removal

The councillor for Northwood is looking to city hall for answers as to why a playground has been torn down at Redwood Park.

Shelby Ch’ng tells us the city manager and some city staff told her they’ll look into why the city owned equipment was taken down on the property owned by Redwood Park church, without anyone knowing about it.

“I’m hoping for something, a resolution with the city. I’m also hoping that maybe Redwood Church would build something as well, maintain it privately.”

The Northwood ward councillor says she’s been told the equipment was taken down for liability reasons, due to age.

And, she adds she knew nothing about this, in spite of being part of the recreational facilities master plan.

“Plans for a 20-year, 25-year future for Thunder Bay when it comes to recreational spaces. So, I was hoping I would at least be somewhat consulted over this.”
