Missing, Murdered Indigenous Women Remembered

Today is known as National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

It was initially established in the U.S. four years ago.

Executive Director of the United Native Friendship Centre in Fort Frances Sheila McMahon says it’s still a hard topic to talk about, but they continue to raise awareness.

“People are talking more about it, and healing. They’re walking, there are annual walks by different families from across Canada, [carrying] pictures of their loved ones.”

McMahon says it’s important for the whole community to come together to talk and heal.
