Manslaughter Charges Laid In Opioid Death

OPP in Pickle Lake have charged three people with manslaughter after an incident from last October.

They say on October 14th, officers with the Pickle Lake detachment were called to two separate incidents where a Mishkeegogamang resident and a Pickle Lake resident became unconscious after taking pills they thought were oxycodone.

A 29-year-old Mishkeegogamang resident died.

Provincial police believe the pills were actually what they call illicit opioids made to look like the medication.

Charged are a 59-year-old Pickle Lake man, a 37-year-old woman from Mishkeegogamang and a 36-year-old woman from the same community.

The 59-year-old man was also charged with Unlawfully Cause Bodily Harm.
