Transmission Line Project Set To Begin

A major power line from Thunder Bay to Wawa is almost ready to start construction.
Spokesperson Matt Jackson with NextBridge told NOMA officials this morning they are waiting on a few permits to be approved before the project gets underway.

They’ve set June as the start date, and hope to finish the power line in 2021.

He explains construction will start at roughly the mid-way point between Wawa and Thunder Bay and work outward in both directions, although officials say they haven’t finalized the exact starting point yet.

They hope to have that information available online in the coming weeks.

NextBridge is hosting a number of open houses in the communities along the power line, starting with Thunder Bay on May 6th.

Jackson adds they will also be building worker camps along the route, starting with Nipigon in July, followed by Terrace Bay and Marathon in September, White River in November, and Wawa in September 2020.
  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
