Evacuees From Kashechewan Settling In

The flooding of the Albany River has forced another evacuation of the Kashechewan First Nation.

City Deputy Fire Chief David Paxton tells us about 200 residents, mainly children and elders, are now settled in Thunder Bay until the threat eases.

Paxton notes about 100 children are included with the group and they are getting some classroom attention because this year, teachers from the community have come along as well.

The evacuees from the James Bay First Nation are expected to be in the city for about a month.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
