Northwest Monitor, April 14/19

Coming up, we’ll hear about fat biking in northwestern Ontario, volunteers are working in Dryden on a housing project, and we talk with a lawyer about what you can do to prevent violence in the workplace.

But first, Sheri Leviski-Kotyk has this look at the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days campaign and how you can get involved.

Officials tells us they hope to raise over $20,000 across the region through this months fundraiser.

We now turn our attention to Dryden, where a group of volunteers is working with an organization in Winnipeg to address housing needs in the Dryden area.

Mike Ebbeling had a chance to talk to Steve Krahn about a new Habitat for Humanity initiative that is starting to gain momentum.

A Saint John lawyer says everyone needs to do their part to prevent workplace harassment and violence.

New regulations came into effect on April 1st to address this problem.

They require employers to assess the violence risk in their workplace and create a code of practice outlining how they’ll prevent workplace harassment.

Brad Perry spoke with Saint John lawyer Kelly VanBuskirk, who specializes in labour and employment law, about the changes.
