Chamber Celebrates Local Businesses Tonight

The hard work of Thunder Bay business owners will be recognized at the local Chamber of Commerce 25th Excellence Awards ceremony tonight.

One of the awards President Charla Robinson is excited about is the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.

“We know that young entrepreneurs are just getting started, and they’re just starting their business in many cases, so they may not have the same focus as someone who is up for the Business Person of the Year Award.”

She adds it’s important to celebrate in light of some rough times Thunder Bay has been through lately.

“We know that sometimes negative news gets you down, but this is a really positive night, and a great night to celebrate all the good things that we have in the Thunder Bay business community.”

However, the President notes some business owners would rather turn away from the spotlight, working behind the scenes.

“Every year we’re continually working to say ‘No, you deserve to be recognized and please take this honour’. It’s definitely something we’re working on every year to get more and more people to accept those nominations from their customers.”

The ceremony is at the Valhalla Inn, with 56 businesses nominated.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
