Reward Money Passes 10 Grand, Teachers Praised

The reward money meant to help find and convict whoever is responsible for the threats made to Hammarskjold high school has gone up.

Lakehead Public School Board official Bruce Nugent told Acadia Broadcasting’s John Ongaro this morning more came in, after last night’s offering from Apex Security of $2,500.

“Then we received $500 this morning, literally as soon as I turned on my computer, when I got into the office, we received $500 from Gerry Pickard at “thedrivingschool.ca”, and an additional $200 from Health Tech Training.”

The Lakehead Public School Board started the fund at $5,000, then Crime Stoppers chipped in another $1,000, and the Ontario Secondary Schools Teacher’s Federation recently added $1,000.

On another note, the school board believes it must tell the community what is going on with certain events, such as the threats made.

Nugent says he’s aware some people feel this situation is made worse with everyone talking about it.

“It’s important to get that information out, and you’re right, it’s kind of a ‘Catch 22’, the more we talk about it, the more it seems to fuel the fire. But, at the same time, we can’t ignore it, as a community.”

And, the staff at Hammarskjold are getting plenty of praise from the Lakehead board for their handling of threats made against the school.

The official told John Ongaro teachers have worked incredibly hard to make sure lessons are on-line during this difficult time.

“When push comes to shove, they did an absolutely amazing job, making sure students have the opportunity to get caught up, and I can’t recognize them enough for that.”

This after Superior CVI was included in the threats made to Hammarskjold yesterday morning.
