Get ready to pass the baton in support of the fight against cancer.
Relay for Life is back after organisers of the event took a two year break. Their goal is to raise $50,000 so they can help improve the lives of people living with cancer.
Co-Chair of Relay for Life and cancer survivor Maria Lento tells us the money raised helps with everything from cancer research to transportation costs.
“We need this money. It’s a matter of life and death for a lot of people. Or a matter of extending your life, or a matter of living with cancer. It doesn’t mean we have to die anymore, a lot of people are living with cancer.”
Lento explains that the event is always filled with many emotions.
“There’s a sense of community, there’s tears, there’s laughter, there’s hope, there’s everything. There’s probably every emotion you can think of. And it doesn’t matter what stage you’re in, or if you’re there because someone passed away and you’re there to remember. It’s still a happy thing.”
The relay has shortened from an overnight event to a 6 hour event, and takes place at the Legion Track today.
