2018 has been an eventful year in Thunder Bay.
The city made the news around the world after a provincial watchdog pointed the ugly finger of systemic racism at the city police force followed by another report which condemned the Police Services Board for the same thing.
The election of Bill Mauro as mayor also topped the news this year as did the election of several new city councillors.
Still on the election front MPP Michael Gravelle managed to survive the fall of the Liberal party in the June provincial election, but his colleague Bill Mauro, did not.
There were also two lengthy bitter strikes in the health care field, at the Port Arthur Health Centre and the District Health Unit.
Here are some of the news stories you should be watching for in 2019.
The federal election is expected to take place in 2019, Liberals Patty Hajdu and Don Rusnak will be fighting to keep their Thunder Bay seats.
All eyes will be on the Thunder Bay police force and the Police Services Board to see how they move forward after two scathing reports citing systemic racism.
Early in the new year expect the Supreme Court of Canada to rule on the James Street Bridge saga possibly allowing the bridge to reopen after being closed for five years.
As well, watch to see if our local Bombardier plant will be able to snag any new contracts in the 2019 since much of the current work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
