Boards Assess Program Cuts

It’s not yet clear how Thunder Bay’s school board’s will be impacted by announced cuts to specialized school programs.

In a memo to Ontario’s 72 school boards, the province has announced 25-million dollars is being slashed from a program that provides support for tutors and leadership training and programming.

The Ministry of Education document states the fund has a long track record of wasteful spending, overspending and millions of dollars of unfunded commitments.

Following a request from our newsroom for comment, both the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board and the Lakehead Public School Board say they are still trying to assess how the announcement will affect them.
