Thunder Bay Apartment Vacancy Rate Up

If you’re looking to rent an apartment in Thunder Bay, you’ll have more options, but paying a bit more.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation is noting in it’s latest market report the overall vacancy rate rose to 4.9% this year, from 3.2-percent last year.

But, the average rent is $953, which is up by 5.3-percent.

The CMHC tells us this is due to more people moving into a home, and the number of apartments to rent is up.

The average bachelor apartment in Thunder Bay costs $666 to rent, with a vacancy rate of 7.7%, while three or more bedrooms cost $1.296, with a vacancy rate of 6%.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
