Labour Minister Patty Hajdu says her government is doing everything possible to help Canada Post and the Union of Postal Workers reach an agreement.
Hajdu says she appointed a special mediator to assist the two sides while they negotiate.
Morton Mitchnick is joining a team of federal arbitrators.
Hajdu notes she has met with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and Canada Post to encourage both parties to continue to negotiate.
