Brain Rules When It Comes To Fitness: Expert

Despite a strong start in September, interest in the gym could be fading by now but a research psychologist at one Canadian gym company has advice for how to get your head back in the game.

Scott Leith with Goodlife Fitness says your brain is the most important body part when it comes to exercise.

He suggests using positive imagery to achieve your fitness goals.

“When you are doing burpees, push-ups, or sit-ups, or whatever it is, you just picture getting what you want. Everybody starts with the end in mind,” Leith explains. “You want to lose 10 pounds, you want to look a certain way, you want to play with your kids or grandkids.”

He also recommends being mindful of that critical voice in our heads, saying when our minds feel the pain, we tend to amplify the negative thoughts.
