Union Has Plan For Generating Station

An electrical workers’ union says keeping the Thunder Bay Generating Station open could make the city a hub of the bio-mass industry.

Jeff Parnell with the Power Workers’ Union will tell City Council about a plan to save the station, adding they’ve spoken with partners who could reduce costs by providing its special fuel pellets locally.

He believes there is “definitely interest from a lot of parties to set up shop in Thunder Bay” but they need commitment from the government to keep it open.

Parnell adds they need quick action because it will be harder to revive the plant if it’s fully shut down.
