New Contract For Child Welfare Workers

A new contract has been secured for some 30 unionized workers at Weechi-it-te-win Family Services in Fort Frances.

The Indigenous-based child welfare agency serves Anishinaabe residents from ten First Nations across the Kenora and Rainy River districts.

Members of Unifor Local 324 have voted 88% in favour of the four year deal.

The contract includes a 7.25% increase in wages, increased employer pension contributions, 14 annual statutory holidays, 15 annual sick days, expanded paid leave, a generous retirement allowance and improved benefit coverage.

Local National Representative Stephen Boon says the deal will provide long-term stability and allow their members to focus on providing critical services.
