Northeastern Mayor Proposes Economic Plan

A framework for northern Ontario has been developed aimed at bolstering the region’s economy.

It was developed out of a conference held in September in Cochrane that brought together Indigenous, municipal, industry, and business leaders from across the region.

Cochrane Mayor Peter Politis says it includes a long-term comprehensive business plan.

Politis says they need a long-term plan that helps them reach their full potential.

He notes the strategy focuses on strengthening the North’s power needs and ensures all First Nations are a part of local economic development initiatives.

Politis says by working together, all of the north will benefit.

He adds he sees the conference leading to similar events elsewhere.
