Thunder Bay’s Jim Gamble says he’s running for mayor due to what he calls high energy costs killing jobs in this area.
The candidate tells our newsroom he’s been warning the Liberal party since 1991 about what he claims are roughly 8,000-10,000 jobs that have been lost in 20 years.
“I was emailing [former Liberal Ontario Premier Dalton] McGuinty myself, I was emailing Bill Mauro, Michael Gravelle, they didn’t even acknowledge it,” Gamble argues. “Bill Mauro’s office acknowledged one of my emails over the past 10 to 12 years.”
Gamble adds he’s warned the government the pulp and paper industries would die if energy costs weren’t dealt with.
He also questions the city’s desire to be clean, green and beautiful, noting there are paved boulevards on main city streets.
He points to Algoma Street’s tree-lined storefronts.
“From John Street to Red River Road, now that’s a prime example of what I’m going to say is the city’s gold standard. I want every major artery to look like Algoma.”
The candidate tells us he’s furious with what he calls suppression of his message by the city.
Gamble claims links to several of his social media accounts were removed from his profile on the city’s election website without his permission.
“I’m taking them to task for this, you’re silencing me?”
Gamble insists he will get the truth to voters, adding he’s tired of being disillusioned by the city council and administration.
