UPDATE: Power Slowly Returning

Power is expected to return to normal through the afternoon.

Thunder Bay Hydro is working through downed hydro lines from fallen trees.

Arthur Street West has been restored.

Power has been reported out on John Street road, the Expressway, also Dawson by County Fair Mall, among many other places.

Hydro One is reporting several thousand customers are without power in the surrounding areas of Thunder Bay, through Lappe, Oliver Paipoonge and beyond.

Thunder Bay police and fire tell us they were kept busy dealing with small brush fires, exploding transformers, as well as numerous alarms going off at homes and businesses from the wind.

The fire department adds it dealt with an unattended pot on a stove at a home at the 400 block of East Brock Street. It was alerted to someone walking by who heard the smoke alarm. There was some smoke, no one was home at the time.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
