Provincial, Federal Funding For James Street Flood Prevention

New storm sewer work is coming to James Street, and the provincial and federal governments are paying for most of it.

Together they’re investing over $487,000 for a new concrete pipe that will direct storm water into the river to prevent flooding.

It will run from Riverview Drive to Arthur Street.

The city is responsible for the rest of the costs, or around $162,000.

Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP Don Rusnak and Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Bill Mauro announced the funding at City Hall on Friday.

The provincial and federal governments made similar announcements that day for 11 other water and wastewater projects in the province, including a new facility for the town of Red Rock. (Staff Photo)
