Area municipalities are getting a refund on a portion of their yearly contribution to the Thunder Bay District Social Services Board.
Board CAO Bill Bradica tells us it’s because there’s budget surplus of over half a million dollars since the board didn’t spend as much as planned in a couple of areas last year.
He sites an Ontario Works program as an example and the fact there were a number of vacant positions that were not filled.
The surplus means the City of Thunder Bay get over $400,000 back from the board with $20,000 being refunded Oliver-Paipoonge and $3,400 to Terrace Bay.
