“Meth Walkers” Expected In Thunder Bay Today

A group of Indigenous people who are walking from the Island Lake First Nation in Manitoba to Ottawa are expected to arrive in Thunder Bay today.

Spokesperson Maureen Wood tells us they want to draw the attention of lawmakers to the problems the drug crystal meth is having on their community and other First Nations as well.

She indicates that the drug is destroying lives, destroying families and many are dying from it.

They hope they can convince Members of Parliament to put in place treatment centres where addicts can get the help they require.

The walkers are expected to stay in the city a couple of days before continuing east.

Wood adds they are also accepting financial donations in their effort to reach the nation’s capital.
