Police Getting Help From Situation Table

35 organizations in Thunder Bay continue to work with city police, ensuring people in crisis get the help they need to avoid harm or jail time.

Chair of the Situation Table Mariah Maddock says they’ve had a success rate of around 70% since September.

27 cases have been referred to the group in that time.

Maddock notes that mental health, housing or victims’ services have made the load lighter for police.

People are referred to the service when an agency believes that “a negative outcome is going to occur,” which she says could include victimization, harm, or jail time.

Maddock says the combination of services that they can offer is unique, noting they don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach to helping people. (File Photo)
