City Supports Call For National Drug Coverage

Nation-wide prescription coverage is a good idea in City Council’s eyes.

They voted last night to formally announce they agree with Unifor’s call for a national pharmacare plan, which Councillor Andrew Foulds argues is very much needed.

“Canada is the only developed country with a national healthcare system that doesn’t have a national pharmacare program,” Foulds notes, “We have one of the highest drug costs in the world.”

He points to statistics that show 8.4 million Canadians don’t have drug coverage.

Council’s motion will be forwarded to the federal and provincial governments, along with a number of lobby groups. (File Photo)
