VIDEO: Local Boy Selected As Champion Child

A local six year old boy has been selected as the Children’s Miracle Network Champion Child.

Hunter Fernyc is living with a rare blood disease, and the Dawson Road Walmart is helping raise money for the children’s hospital he was treated at.

Manager Yuchi Yang says in past years the local stores have raised around $40,000 for the hospital network but this year with Hunter being a spokesperson for the organization they want to bring in more.

The young boy was diagnosed with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis at the age of two and was flown from Thunder Bay’s hospital to London Health Sciences Centre for treatment. He’s now in remission from his life-threatening blood disease.

Hunter and his family will fly to Ottawa and then to Florida to take part in the official Ambassador tour on March 4th.
