Thunder Bay’s economy got $6.3 million thanks to the Under-18 Baseball World Cup.
Organizers of last September’s tournament gave City Council a final report on the World Cup.
Thunder Bay International Baseball Association Facilities Chair Reg Galbraith explains the preparations for the World Cup included more than $2 million worth of improvements to Port Arthur Stadium and Baseball Central.
“It’s going to give us an opportunity to bid on more projects,” Galbraith notes.
Executive Director Warren Philp points out that the tournament brought an additional $3 million to the province’s economy, on top of its impact to Thunder Bay.
Councillors also heard a record 81,000 passengers travelled through the Thunder Bay Airport during the 10-day event.
Nearly 13 million people watched the games online, with viewers tuning in from 207 countries. (File Photo)
