Nugent Street Condo Approved

A controversial condo development is getting the go-ahead from City Council.

Despite opposition from area residents, developer Ryan Jones Corporation succeeded in getting a Nugent Street property’s zoning changed to allow a seventeen-unit, six-storey building.

Architect Cory Stechyshyn says they’ve taken neighbours’ concerns about the building’s impact on the street into account, including parking.

Developers say the building will have enough parking, and visitors won’t be allowed to stay overnight.

Councillors heard that the building at the corner of Nugent and McVicar Streets will fit in with the character of the area, and not block neighbours’ sunlight.

A number of residents came forward with concerns about privacy, the condo blocking their views, and other complaints.

Court Street property owner Walid Shahrour argues the six-storey project will mean even more cars parking on the street.

“It doesn’t make any sense to me, and it’s going to be a very serious concern.” (Staff Photo)
