Government Adjusts Times For Solitary Confinement

The provincial government’s new plan to transform area jails isn’t getting a lot of fan fare from the union representing guards.

The Ontario Public Service Employees Union says they are cautiously optimistic.

They’re concerned about the safety of frontline staff saying the legislation hasn’t addressed a need for more guards.

The new bill includes revised time limits for solitary confinement, something they would like to see an alternative for, suggesting keeping one inmate to a cell would solve the problem.
