City police are on the watch for the wild lynx which has been spotted numerous times in the last several days.
While they have received a few calls from the homeowners in the area around Marina Park, police haven’t been able to spot it themselves.
Police say they will be the first to responded for any call that involves a threat to human safety.
Meanwhile, with the wild animal roaming the north side the Lakehead Public School Board is on alert.
Spokesperson Leslie Hynnes says schools in the Algoma and Argyle area are watching their yards.
“We are continuing to monitor our playgrounds. Making sure that in the event we see a lynx, we’ll follow our safe schools protocols during recess.”
Hynnes says since the schoolyards in the area are fenced in there’s no need to cancel recess. She adds as a precaution they also alerted the Catholic School Board about their concerns as well.
There are also multiple reports on social media about a small dog that was injured recently by a lynx.
The Ministry of Natural Resources have advised police that the wild animals can be found in the district and although rarely seen, it is not uncommon for them to be present in the city limits.
