No Changes To Tax Levy Increase

No changes to your property taxes on the second night of budget talks at city hall.

It remains at 2.91%, despite investments in a McIntyre Ward road.

Councillor Trevor Giertuga explains that money originally budgeted for Melbourne Road will now go to to fix Toms Road off of John Street Road.

“I asked to take $80,000 out of the Stabilization Reserve Fund, so it wouldn’t increase the tax burden for this year,” Giertuga notes.

He says the 1.5 kilometre-long stretch of road receives plenty of traffic and has been a source of complaints for years.

In total, the repairs for Toms Road are expected to cost $230,000.

Meanwhile, Council also approved $8,700 for work on Mountdale and Tungsten, and just over $11,000 for a water meter rebate for low-income people with disabilities. (File Photo)
