Hospital Gets $20K Donation For Imaging

The Regional Health Sciences Centre is about $20,000 closer to improving its vision care.

That donation comes from the Thunder Bay Metro and Dryden Lions Clubs, along with the Lions Eye Bank of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, plus the Polish and Slovak Royal Canadian Legion Branches

The money is going towards a new retinal imaging camera for the Lions Vision Care Centre at the hospital.

The Centre does have equipment to examine the back of a patient’s eye, but Opthalmologist Dr. Leland Dhurjon says it’s not as quick or accurate as the camera.

Dhurjon adds that the purchase would let 1500 patients remain in Thunder Bay, instead of going to Winnipeg or Toronto to check their eyes for damage from conditions like diabetes.

The Centre’s Advisory Board Chair, Angela Sharbot, says it’s a critical piece of equipment to make the clinic truly state-of-the-art.

With the camera’s price tag set at $120,000, Sharbot adds the fundraising isn’t limted to the Lions or the Legion, and is encouraging you to donate to the hospital as well.
