Local Gold Mine Fined

Wesdome Gold Mines are being fined $175,000 after pleading guilty to being in breach of the Fisheries Act.

It comes after the Ontario Court of Justice heard the company’s Tailings Management Area of the Eagle River Mill overflowed effluent into Miron Creek.

The company also failed to report the incidents that happened between January 1st, 2012 and May 7th, 2013.

Some of the runoff from the mill contained levels of cyanide and metals that are harmful to fish.

As a result of this conviction, the company’s name will be added to the Environmental Offenders Registry.
