Homeless Count Surprises

An official with the Lakehead Social Planning Council agrees it’s a call to action for community leaders.

The results of a recent survey of the homeless in Thunder Bay show that of the almost 290 homeless people interviewed over 70 per cent were Aboriginal.

Bonnie Krysowaty believes the results are eye opening and we should be working to make sure nobody in the city is homeless or becomes homeless.

She says what surprised her were the number of so called “couch surfers” who don’t have a permanent residence and the reasons given for being homeless, with the third most popular being evictions.
