MNR Prepares For Seasonal Burning Program

Following close on the heels of the forest fire season will be a number of prescribed burns across the region.

The Ministry of Natural Resources says burns will take place in the next couple of months in the Sioux Lookout, Dryden and Kenora districts.

Fire Behaviour Specialist Scott Wiseman says there are a number of reasons for igniting the controlled fires, including to improve forest health and habitat restoration. He adds they burn dead grass and debris to reduce hazardous fuels. (File photo)
