Council Pushes Event Centre To Next Phase

Mayor Keith Hobbs is breathing a sigh of relief.

It comes after the 5th phase of the event centre project cleared another major hurdle.

Hobbs says once the provincial and federal government funding is secured in the upcoming budgets construction can begin.

Councillor Rebecca Johnson couldn’t contain her disdain for proceeding with the facility.

She voted against the project because the financial figures for the project drastically changed.

Meanwhile, Thunder Bay Live Spokesperson Gary Green fielded questions from Council about whether an AHL hockey team will be apart of the arena.

He says he’s confident that True North will have a signed deal with the centre once it is built.

A ratification vote still needs to be held by Council at their meeting in April. (Photo by Sheri Leviski-Kotyk)
