Government Introduces Polymer Birth Certificates

The Ontario government is introducing a new birth certificate made of polymer plastic.

The province says it will make the certificates more durable and secure which is supposed to make them harder to counterfeit and easier to verify.

Government Services Minister David Orazietti says they’ll not be wallet sized though. He says the larger size is meant to discourage people from carrying their birth certificate with them.

They’ll be available starting on April 15th. (Government Photo)
