Students Carry Burden Of University Costs

University funding in Ontario has hit a low point, according to the Ontario Faculty Association.

The OCUFA today released funding figures that show tuition fees now account for almost 51 per cent of operating budgets at universities across the province.

President of the Lakehead University Student Union, Ian Kaufman, says it’s concerning to think university education might one day no longer be publicly funded, adding public investment in our universities helps give everyone equal access to higher education.

The OCUFA is calling for public dollars to ease the burden on students, as Ontario has the highest tuition fees in Canada.
