MPAC Issues Before Council, Monday

The City is struggling to find a way to offset the impact of a recent decision to reclassify grain elevators from industrial to commercial class.

City Manager Tim Commisso says the MPAC reassessment means the City will lose around $1 million of its tax base per year, burdening residential property owners.

At Monday’s meeting, the City will recommend Council seek relief from the Minister of Finance, by either establishing a new class for grain elevators, or providing direct compensation.

The Staal Foundation Open will also, once again, ask the city to support the Thunder Bay Golf Classic on Monday.

Last year the organization recieved both $20,000 in cash, and $20,000 worth of in-kind services.

The Foundation says its seeking the same funding for 2015 and 2016. (File photo)
