Sir John A. Macdonald Day Provokes Debate

An area First Nation says the government has yet to stray from the path set out by Canada’s first prime minister.

Nishnawbe Aski Nation says aboriginal communities across the country continue to be subject to a colonial approach.

The comments come in light of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Sir John A. Macdonald, Sunday.

Deputy Chief Alvin Fiddler says the government is as unjust as it was a century ago, in light of putting a Quebec First Nation at risk of losing funding for not complying with a new transparency law.
