Confederation College is closer to constructing its student village.
The first two of four new buildings is slated for completion by fall of 2015.
President Jim Madder says the project is addressing an accomodation shortage, by offering an additional 256 beds.
“In Thunder Bay, we have one of the highest occupancy rates in Canada,” says Madder. “I still come across students that are couch surfing, they actually don’t have an official place to live.”
Madder says he estimates several hundred students are currently looking for active accommodation.
“We need to find really, really good accommodation for people,” he says. “It’s hard to learn unless you’re staying in a place that’s half decent.” (Photo: Caryn Ceolin)
