Sandy Beach Leaseholders Won’t Accept Early Offers

Sandy Beach residents are not taking no for an answer, concerning the city’s decision to teminate property leases.

Many home and camp owners say they’re not willing to accept early buy-out offers.

“So they’re trying to give us a very low value on the property to claim it as park,” says one resident. “We’re going to take them to court, absolutely. I will not leave. They’re wolves in sheeps clothing, and I will not be selling out.”

“Well they say they want to convert it back to parkland, well it always has been parkland so it’s not like they’re taking it and making it something it wasn’t already,” says another. “Within four weeks, they’re going to have a decision with respect to a buy-out, which is going to be miniscule.”

“It seems as though they want to push us out. It seems as though they don’t care, and that’s the part that hurts the most,” adds another resident. “I don’t think that we should bow down and just take waht they have to offer, because they really don’t know what they’re talking about.”

The Sandy Beach Leaseholders Association adds at least $1.8 million would have been generated from those leases and taxes over the next 13 years. (Photo supplied)
