Council Preview Round Up

It looks like Riverfest could be on the chopping block.
The City’s Recreation and Culture division wants to reallocate their resources assigned for the south side festival and create a new event.
Staff will broach the topic at tonight’s City Council meeting.
Also up for approval tonight at City Hall is a 2.2 million dollar road reconstruction contract for May Street.
If passed, Nadin Contracting will replace side-walks, water-mains and sewers.
The project is meant to spruce up the Fort William area.
A report coming to council tonight will look at putting 10-million dollars into refurbishing the Fort William Gardens.
One of the suggestions in the Future Usage Assessment Study would see the ice surface and seating removed.
Councillor Rebecca Johnson says the report is in its early stages.
Johnson says the report should come back to council at the end of July.
Finally, the city is looking for an extra million dollars to prepare a phase three study for the proposed event centre.
Council will discuss the report tonight with the money coming from the Renew – Thunder Bay fund.
