9-Year Old To Raise Money For Hospital

A 9-year old Thunder Bay boy is hoping you will help him raise money for the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.

Michael Vita tells us starting May 1st, he’ll be riding his bike around the city, hoping to cover about 1000kms in four months.

“We are always biking at this time of year, and during the whole summer… I really like biking,” says the 9-year old.

His father Dominic adds Michael will ride for a number of days, then take a few days off.

“The target goal is about 10kms per day, or per time out,” notes Michael’s father.

Michael adds he’ll ride around town by himself, but his dad will join him outside city limits, and help spread the word.

“I have my own Facebook page and Instagram account, but it’s technically not mine, because they do everything and they only show me a few things on it,” says Michael.

Dominic adds most of the riding will be in town.

“Starting with what we can at the moment, and then just kind of building up and doing longer rides. We’re probably going to do different rides, different locations,” says Dominic.

His father adds Michael wants to raise 5-cents a kilometre, but exactly where that money goes has not been determined.

“Michael hasn’t specified. Right now we’re going to leave it to the hospital to decide on the area of highest need,” says his father.

Michael says his dad will track how many kilometres he does.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
